Pilatus

The view from Lucerne’s local mountain, Pilatus, is not to be missed. At 2128 m above sea level, you get an unrivalled panorama. Mount Pilatus offers many opportunities for walking and can be reached by various mountain railways. For instance, the steepest rack and pinion railway in the world, from Alpnachstadt, just a 23-minute drive from the Motel Brüggli.

KKL & Art Museum

The Lucerne Culture and Convention Centre (KKL), next to the railway station, is not only the place for high-calibre – mainly classical – concerts, but is also an architectural masterpiece, created by Jean Nouvel. Besides various concert halls, the KKL also houses the popular Lucerne Art Museum (Kunstmuseum). We’re happy to give further information at reception.

Bürgenstock

The Bürgenstock – only suitable for people with a good head for heights – offers a breathtaking view of Lake Lucerne and Central Switzerland. One way to get to the summit, 1132 m above sea level, is the Hammetschwend lift, the highest exterior lift in Europe. Built over 110 years ago, it now ascends 152 m in less than one minute.

Glacier Garden

The Glacier Garden (Gletschergarten) in Lucerne is a national natural monument and is located next to the Lion Monument. The history goes back 20 million years to the so-called “Hot Age”. The Glacier Garden contains more than just the monument: it also offers a maze and a museum. Ask for information at our reception.

Lion Monument

The Lion Monument (Löwendenkmal) in the centre of Lucerne commemorates the Swiss Guards who fell during the storming of the Tuileries Palace in Paris on 10 August 1792. It is one of the best known monuments in Switzerland, and is visited by 1.4 million tourists every year. The stone sculpture, a protected monument, is 15 minutes from the Motel Brüggli by car and 20 minutes by public transport.

Rigi

It’s not for nothing that Mount Rigi is known as the Queen of the Mountains. The massif, 1800 m above sea level, is located between Lake Lucerne, Lake Zug and Lake Lauerz, and is a popular destination for tourists. You can either walk to the summit on beautiful tracks or take various mountain railways and cable cars. The starting points are Arth-Goldau (25 minutes from the Motel Brüggli by car), Vitznau (35 minutes’ drive from the Motel Brüggli) or Weggis (30 minutes’ drive).

Kappelbrücke

The world-famous Kappelbrücke (Chapel Bridge) is one of the symbols of Lucerne. It’s the oldest wooden bridge in Europe, and at 202 metres, the second longest. It was built as a bridge over the Reuss River in 1365. The bridge’s pediments contain 111 triangular paintings depicting important scenes from Swiss history. The Kappelbrücke is just 15 minutes from the Motel Brüggli by car or 22 minutes by public transport.
